Under the penname Ryū Kaidō, Tsuchiyama illustrated Tetsu Kariya’s Ginga Senshi Apolon manga, which inspired the UFO Senshi Daiapolon and UFO Senshi Daiapolon II television anime series that aired in 1976-1977.
In recent years he drew several gourmet manga, such as Kuishin Bō!, Kenka Ramen, Shoku-King, Ōgui Kōshien, Gokudō Meshi, Tōhan – The Air Food Battle!!, and Kinban Gourmet Bushimeshi!. Kuishin Bō! inspired the Gluttonous live-action movie series, and Gokudō Meshi also inspired a live-action film in 2011.
LEED Publishing Co., Ltd. announced on Friday that manga creator Shigeru Tsuchiyama passed away from cancer on May 24.
Tsuchiyama debuted as a manga creator with the Dallas no Atsui Hi manga in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine in 1973.
