The Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS) announced on September 25 that the Gifu prefectural police’s cybercrime division arrested and charged a man on September 19 for allegedly using the file sharing software Perfect Dark to illegally upload and distribute manga.
However, Perfect Dark has more robust anonymity features compared to earlier programs, and arrests of people allegedly using the software have been somewhat less common.
The suspect admitted in his affidavit that he uploaded the manga because he “wanted other people to know about it.”
Many arrests for similar copyright violations using Share and other file-sharing software have been made in Japan in recent years.
