The Olympic handover ceremony saw Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of the Liberal Democratic Party wearing a costume of iconic Nintendo character Mario.
The extraordinary session of Japan’s National Diet set to convene next month will see Japan’s Democratic Party investigate the issue of the 1.2 billion yen (about US$11.62 million) cost of the Olympic handover ceremony conducted in Rio De Janeiro on August 21.
The handover also showed a video featuring many iconic characters from Japanese pop culture, such as Captain Tsubasa, Pac-Man, Doraemon, and Hello Kitty, while showcasing many traditional Summer Olympic sports.
The Diet session will also tackle issues related to a proposal for a secondary supplementary budget, as well as the Trans-Pacific Partnership and possible defensive deployment of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces.
