Despite regaining a monstrous amount of steam again in the film’s last two weeks, One Piece Film Red has left theaters in Japan and has an official end total for its historic theatrical box office run, confirming predictions that it overtook Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle to be the sixth highest-grossing anime film in Japan of all time.
Not only did Film Red overtake Howl’s Moving Castle’s anime spot, but also its spot on the all-time chart, where Film Red is now also the eighth highest-grossing film in Japan of all time.
As of January 29, One Piece Film Red’s 177th day in Japanese theaters, the Toei Animation-produced film made 19.70 billion yen (US$141.07 million) on the back of 14.27 million tickets sold.
