A new report filed by Japan’s Cinema Today has confirmed that Sunao Katabuchi’s crowdfunded feature film adaptation of In This Corner Of The World will be screened in the US starting in September following massive success in Japan with 2 billion yen in gross revenue from 1.5 million ticket sales.
In This Corner Of The World was first revealed in 2012 as the first feature film project by Sunao Katabuchi, and he also undertook a crowdfunding campaign to finance the film’s production beginning in 2015, which became one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns in Japan with 39 million yen raised from 3,349 contributors.
The report also confirmed that Shout Factory will handle distribution for the planned US screening campaign.
