The winners have been announced for the 3rd annual “CGWORLD AWARDS”, an industry award sponsored by the Monthly CGWORLD magazine that recognizes excellence in computer graphics artistry, and little-studio-that-could YAOYOROZU (Kemono Friends) took home the Grand Prize.
Commenting on YAOYOROZU’s Grand Prize win, Monthly CGWORLD editor-in-chief Arihito Numakura noted that while Kemono Friends doesn’t have the most high-end animation, it managed to capture the unique appeal of Japanese animation in a new manner and to become a social phenomenon as a result.
Numakura also praised director Tatsuki, animation director Yoshihisa Isa, and art director Yūko Shiromizu for continuing to produce both commercial and original work.
