Entertainment news magazine Variety reported on Friday that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made rule changes to the voting process for the Academy Awards’ Best Animated Feature Film category.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia film won the Animated Feature Film award at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony in February.
This change makes voting for the category similar to the current system used for nominating the Best Picture category.
The category will now also have a preferential ballot to decide nominations, where voters rank their choices, instead of using a numerical scoring system.
