It surpassed the domestic gross of Shin Godzilla (8.25 billion yen / 75.4 million USD), for which Hideaki Anno served as the general director and the screenplay writer, becoming the highest-grossing film in Anno’s career.
The 155-minute film now ranks 22nd in the Japanese film’s box office ranking of all-time and needs 100 million yen more to exceed the current 21st film Stand By Me Doraemon (8.38 billion yen / 76.6 million USD).
According to Oricon News, Toei announced today that Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time earned 8,282,298,700 yen (75.7 million USD) on 5423475 admissions in 59 days since its release in Japan.
