Ghibli’s Boy and the Heron wins Academy Award, studio COO apologizes for Hayao Miyazaki’s absence

This is the second Academy Award for Ghibli, following 2002’s Spirited Away, which, like The Boy and the Heron, was directed by the studio’s legendary co-founder, Hayao Miyazaki.

For now, this is a great honor for The Boy and the Heron and everyone who worked on it.

Miyazaki, as is his way, did not reach out to the media to make a statement following The Boy and the Heron’s win.
