Bandai announced on Sunday that after the Gundam Front Tokyo amusement park closes at the DiverCity Tokyo mall on April 5, The Gundam Base Tokyo complex will take its place this summer.
Unlike the current Gundam Front Tokyo, The Gundam Base Tokyo will not have an amusement area that requires paid admission.
However, the 2,000-square-meter (20,000-square-foot) Gundam Base Tokyo will be Japan’s first complex devoted to selling the 2,000 varieties of Gunpla released since the first debuted in 1980.
Strict-G, the Gundam-themed fashion store that is also on the seventh floor of Diver City Tokyo, will remain after Gundam Front Tokyo closes, but it will be revamped before it reopens alongside The Gundam Base Tokyo.
