Entertainment news source The Hollywood Reporter posted on Wednesday that Netflix has offered to purchase the streaming rights for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla vs. Kong film for upwards of US$200 million, while WarnerMedia is preparing a deal to stream the film on its own HBO Max service.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that the most recent delay was due to the impact of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the production and release schedules of the entire Warner Bros. film slate.
Warner Bros. told THR that the studio still plans to release the film theatrically next year.
Legendary licensed the Godzilla film rights in 2010, and produced Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla film.
