While finally falling to second place in the third week of its release, the cumulative box office revenue of Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 had reached 1.3 billion yen (10.72 million USD) on 1.09 million admissions to become the top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2022 so far.
At this point, the film’s cumulative box office gross is about 60 percent of the first three-week gross of the previous 40th film Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur released in August 2020 and earned 3.35 billion yen from its total domestic run, so its final box office result is expected to be around only two billion yen or so.
The 107-minute 41st feature film in the Doraemon anime franchise earned 236 million yen (1.94 million USD) on 193,000 admissions on its third weekend of March 19-20, which was 16 percent down from its second weekend gross.
