The fourth film is expected to earn around 2.5 billion yen from its domestic run, less than one third of the total gross of the franchise’s first and most successful film, Yo-kai Watch: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan! that gathered 7.8 billion yen in 2014.
According the latest box office report for the weekend of December 16-17, Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oniou no Fukkatsu (The Return of The Oni King), the fourth feature film in the Yo-kai Watch anime franchise earned 399 million yen from the 355,200 ticket sales in its debut weekend.
It was only 65.6% of the opening weekend gross of the third film The Great Adventure of the Flying Whale and the Double World, Meow! released in last December, clearly showing the franchise’s declining popularity.
