Shueisha reported on Monday that with the 2.15 million copy initial print run of the 17th compiled book volume of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga, the manga will have 55 million copies in circulation (including print and digital copies, as well as copies not yet sold) when the volume ships on October 4.
The manga’s 15th compiled volume alone had 1.5 million copies in its initial run — the first time that any of the manga’s volumes has had more than 1 million copies in its initial run.
The 16th volume had 2 million copies in its initial run, putting the manga at 50 million copies in when it shipped on June 4.
The film is based on Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kōtō Senmon Gakkō (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School) manga prequel story.
