Kyoto Animation Arsonist's Lawyers Ask to Nullifiy Appeal Withdrawal

The legal team of Shinji Aoba, who was convicted in the arson fire that killed 36 people and wounded 32 others at Kyoto Animation, asked the Osaka High Court to nullify Aoba’s withdrawal of his appeal against his death sentence on January 30.

The Kyoto District Court handed down a guilty verdict to Aoba on January 25, 2024.

The Kyoto District Court started the main trial for the arson murder case in September 2023, with pre-trial proceedings starting in May 2023.
