Kyoto Animation’s anime film adaptation of Yoshitoki Ōima’s A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) manga earned more than 410,000,000 yen (about US$4 million) and sold more than 300,000 tickets in its first three days.
The film earned 283,000,000 yen (about US$2.8 million) and sold 200,000 tickets over Saturday and Sunday to rank #2 on the Japanese box office for the weekend.
By comparison, Kyoto Animation’s 2011 K-ON! film earned 316,310,000 yen in its first two days on 137 screens.
Naoko Yamada (Tamako Market, Tamako Love Story, K-ON’s two anime seasons and anime film) directed the film at Kyoto Animation.
