The first live-action Gintama film opened in Japan in July 2017 and earned 980 million yen (US$8.9 million) in its first four days.
The film earned more than 800 million yen (about US$7.27 million) from Friday to Sunday to rank #1 in its opening weekend.
Gintama 2: Okite wa Yaburu Tame ni Koso Aru (The Law is Surely There to be Broken), the second live-action film based on Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga, has earned more than 3.5 billion yen (about US$30.77 million) as of October 2.
The two live-action Gintama films have sold a combined total of 5.6 million tickets.
