The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominees for the 76th Annual Golden Globes on Thursday, and Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai anime film is nominated in the Best Motion Picture – Animated category.
The Golden Globes changed its rules in 2014 to stipulate that foreign animated films must compete in the Best Animated Feature category, and are no longer eligible for the Best Foreign Language Film category.
The awards ceremony for the 76th Annual Golden Globes will be held on January 6.
The most recent anime to receive a nomination was Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Annual Golden Globes in 2013.
