In an interview with Kadokawa’s Famitsu.com website on October 11, Kazuyoshi Nishi of Nintendo’s general affairs department explained why the North American SNES Classic Edition console contained the EarthBound (Mother 2) RPG, but the Japanese Classic Mini Super Famicom did not.
While the SNES Classic Edition has EarthBound, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Punch-Out!!, Super Castlevania IV, and Kirby’s Dream Course, the Japanese Mini Super Famicom has Super Soccer, Super Street Fighter II, Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo, Panel de Pon, and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyūshutsu Emaki).
Nintendo released the SNES Classic Edition in the West on September 29.
The release includes Star Fox 2, which was created during the SNES era but never released.
