The Asahi Shimbun is reporting on Monday that manga creator Mutsumi Tsukumo (real name Mutsumi Kitagawa) passed away on Saturday after a battle with lung cancer.
Tsukumo debuted as a manga creator with with the Yukiko no Hoshi manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōjo Friend magazine in 1967.
Irodoro no Koro earned an Excellence Award in the 5th Japan Cartoonists Awards in 1976, and Yami no Hate kara earned an Excellence Award in the 22nd Japan Cartoonists Awards in 1993.
