Niantic announced on Wednesday that it has added AR+ functionality for the iOS version of its Pokémon GO smartphone game.
The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016, and has since launched in more than 50 countries.
The feature also enables new mechanics, with Pokémon now having an “Awareness” meter that goes up as the player approaches the Pokémon.
If the meter reaches a certain point, the Pokémon will run away, and the player will not be able to catch it.
