The suspect was allegedly selling the modified consoles for 15,555 yen (about US$140) per unit via an online auction site.
Police arrested a 44-year-old male resident of Ayagawa, Kagawa on October 9 for allegedly modifying PlayStation 3 consoles and then selling them.
Police had discovered the auction in July 2018, and tracked Abe down through that.
The police allege that the suspect, a part-time worker named Tadaaki Abe, violated the Trademark Act, the Unfair Competition Prevention Act, and other laws.
