In 1963 he composed the music for NHK’s first “Taiga” historical drama Hana no Shōgai, and in 1965 he composed music for the Kimba the White Lion television anime series, based on Osamu Tezuka’s manga.
He also composed the soundtrack for Toei Animation’s 1962 film Sinbad no Bōken film and the 1965 film Gulliver’s Space Travels: Beyond the Moon, as well as the 1964-1965 Big X television anime series.
Tomita was born in 1932 and started his music career while in college at Keio University.
At the time of his death he was preparing a new work titled Dr. Coppelius, which was slated for November.
