RX-78-2 Gundam and Char’s Zaku II statues unveiled in Gundam mecha designer’s hometown

To celebrate his achievements, Okawara’s hometown of Inagi unveiled their own statues of two of Okawara’s most iconic designs, namely the RX-78-2 Gundam and Char’s Zaku II.

These statues are part of the “Mechanical Designer Kunio Okawara Project,” which aims to promote the city as an anime tourism destination among mecha anime fans.

The construction of these statues are supervised by Okawara himself, and are 1/5 scale, or 3.6 meters tall.
