Box office data has revealed that the 36th installment of the Doraemon movie series, Shin Nobita no Nippon Tanjou (Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016), has earned 4,037,148,300 yen as of May 5.
Shin Nobita no Nippon Tanjou, which is a remake of the 1989 Nobita no Nippon no Tanjou movie, opened in Japan on March 5 and sold 3,559,4067 tickets in 62 days.
The movie adapts the ninth volume of Fujiko F. Fujio’s Daichouhen Doraemon manga series, in which Nobita and his friends travel 70,000 years into the past and meet Japan’s prehistoric residents.
The earnings figure surpasses that of the 33rd installment, Nobita no Himitsu Dougu Museum (Nobita’s Secret Gadget Museum), which earned a total of 3.98 billion yen in 2013.
