By 15:00 of January 22, Makoto Shinkai’s Kimi no Na wa./Your Name. had attracted 3,021,651 audience in Korea, surpassing the previous box office record by a Japanese anime film, 3.01 million marked by Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl no Ugoku Shiro/Howl’s Moving Castle in 2004, the film’s distributor in Korea, Media Castle confirmed today.
The most successful animation film in Korea was Frozen with 10,29 million ticket sales.
As reported, the film was released on 555 screens (the widest release for a Japanese film) in Korea on January 4, and earned 1,032,712,400 won (100 million yen) on 138,028 admissions in its first weekend, becoming the most successful film of the week.
