Within in a few days, it will surpass the total gross of Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo (15.5 billion yen) and James Cameron’s 2010 film Avatar (15.6 billion), becoming the 9th top-grossing film in the history of the Japanese box office.
This is the first time in eight years for a Japanese film to cross the 15 billion yen mark since Hayao Miyazaki’s Gake no Ue no Ponyo/Ponyo in 2008.
And, as expected, the 107-minute film ruled Japan’s weekend box office again for eight straight weeks.
