The statue was originally painted blue-gray to match the color scheme of the Tetsujin-28 anime, but the restoration uses the bright cobalt blue color scheme of Yokoyama’s original manga.
The Tetsujin-28 Monument was originally erected in 2009 to commemorate Kobe’s reconstruction efforts after the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995.
Mitsuteru Yokoyama, the creator of Tetsujin-28, was born in Kobe.
