Written and drawn by Rumiko Takahashi (the best-selling female comic artist ever, worldwide), the Maison Ikkoku manga ran from 1980 to 1987.
To this day, Maison Ikkoku is my favorite comic series ever.
In terms of popularity, Maison Ikkoku could never reach the heights that Takahashi achieved with Ranma ½ and Inu-Yasha.
But Maison Ikkoku remains to this day my favorite Japanese property, even if the anime doesn’t quite match up to the beauty of its manga counterpart.
