  • Turning Point is the perfect book to pick up if you were ever curious about what is going on in the film-maker’s mind when he was making the Ghibli films that we loved.

  • If you persevere through this thick compendium of interviews, essays and poems by the director himself, the incredible breadth and depth of his historical knowledge, the ideal world he envisions for children, his sincere views about Japanese society and culture and the environmental themes that he infuses into his work are all something to learn from even if you do not watch animated films.

  • In my view, his immense love for children (and the fact that he is pretty much a little boy himself) has been the defining feature of his films and perhaps even of the man himself. Thanks to Viz Media for sending in a review copy.
