The trial of anime studio ufotable founder and former president Hikaru Kondo, who is indicted for violating the Corporation Tax Act and the Consumption Tax Act, has started at the Tokyo District Court today with the first trial letting the defendant, Kondo, make an opening statement in regards to the charges laid on him.
In the opening statement, he admitted to the charges laid out and apologized to fans and other stakeholders.
This let Kondo allegedly evade paying around 109 million yen (US$990,413) in corporate tax, and 28 million yen (US$254,437) in consumption tax, totaling more than 138 million yen (US$1.25 million).
