French newspaper Le Monde reported that writer Pierre Christin (Valerian & Laureline) died on October 3 in Paris.
Christin debuted the science fiction graphic novel series Valerian & Laureline in Pilote magazine in 1967 with artist Jean-Claude Mézières.
The graphic novels also inspired the Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets film in 2017.
He also traveled to the U.S. as a visiting lecturer in 1965, and became a teacher of French contemporary literature at Salt Lake City University in Utah.
