The man has been given a suspended prison sentence and will be required to pay a large fine.
On Tuesday, Shueisha, the Japanese publisher of manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump and smash hit titles such as One Piece and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, issued a statement saying that a conviction had been made in the trial of a man charged with illegally uploading Shueisha manga to a website he administered.
The long arm of Japanese publisher Shueisha’s manga law reaches all the way to Shanghai.
The man admitted to the charges, and following his conviction has been given a three-year suspended prison sentence (effectively a form of probation) and is being ordered to pay a fine of 80,000 yuan (US$11,300).
