Kodansha announced on Thursday that it is issuing the 100th printing of Katsuhiro Otomo’s first Akira manga volume on Friday.
Warner Bros. announced a live-action film adaptation of the manga in 2008, with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) directing the film.
The volume shipped 36 years ago in 1984, and Otomo thanked readers for their support throughout the years.
Manga creator and anime director Otomo announced at Anime Expo panel in July 2019 that a new anime project for Akira is in the works.
