The film opened in Japan on July 14, and it earned 980 million yen (US$8.9 million) in its first four days.
Film distribution company Azoland Pictures announced on Monday that it will release the live-action film of Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga in theaters in the United States and Canada starting on January 19, 2018.
The film will get a sequel tentatively titled Gintama Part 2 in summer 2018.
The film already had its Canadian premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July, and it will also screen in the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, and Central and South America.
