It then sold 598,000 tickets for 806 million yen (about US$7.59 million) from Saturday to Sunday, or 69.7% of the first (non-holiday) weekend total of One Piece Film Gold, the previous franchise film.
The film earned 8.4% more and sold 15.3% more tickets over its first four days than One Piece Film Gold.
The One Piece Stampede anime film has earned over 3.05 billion yen (about US$28.7 million) as of Saturday, its ninth day in theaters since opening on August 9.
The new film eventually sold 1,254,372 tickets for 1,646,321,500 yen (about US$15.64 million) from Friday to Monday of that weekend.
