Sony previously announced that the console had sold 5.9 million units worldwide in the holiday period from November 20 to December 31, and said at the time that the console had sold “more than 73.6 million” units worldwide as of December 31, 2017.
Sony revealed in its annual earnings report on Friday that it sold 9 million units of PlayStation 4 hardware in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2017, bringing the console’s worldwide lifetime sales total to 76.5 million units as of December 31, 2017.
Sony previously revealed that it expects to have shipped 79 million units by the end of fiscal year 2017, which ends on March 31, 2018.
The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014.
