Kentetsu Takamori’s Buddhist book Tannishō o Hiraku (Opening the Tannishō) is inspiring an anime film adaptation that will open in Japan on May 24.
The film stars Kōji Ishizaka as Shinran (in his first anime film role as the lead), and Toshiki Masuda as Yuien.
Takamori’s book contains both the original text and a modern translation of Yuien’s Tannishō (Lamentations of Divergences) text, as well as an explanation of the text.
From 1992 to 1999, AIC produced Sekai no Hikari: Shinran Seijin, a six-part original video anime series about the life of the monk Shinran.
