After passing Frozen over the weekend, The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues its mission to collect all the power stars, or in this case, box office records, by being the second animated film ever to pass US$1.3 billion at the global box office (third if you count 2019’s The Lion King, but Disney doesn’t so neither do most box office trackers).
As of June 4, in Japan, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has collected 10.96 billion yen (US$79.88 million) in box office receipts on the back of 7.73 million tickets sold.
The Lego Movie 2 story writer Matthew Fogel wrote the screenplay for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with Teen Titan’s Go!
